Useeran’s eyes sparkle when she speaks of her dream: the 12-year-old wants to become a lawyer. Her reality now? She is a ragpicker, financially supports her family and with difficulty attends school. Millions of children like Useeran have dreams. But their dreams are tempered by harsh reality: they are forced to work, often in hazardous conditions, for long hours, for a pittance. This is the modern-day equivalent of slave labour.
ACT NOW to end child labour. Say enough is enough. Your voices must resonate in the corridors of power. Strengthen our hands by signing on to this pledge.
“I want the Government to ACT NOW to end child labour. All forms of child labour up to the age of 14 is simply unacceptable. The millions of children now engaged in child labour must be at school, not at work.“
Please send us your comments and also your experience of witnessing child labour, how it moved you. What is the change you would like to see happen? What do you want the new Government to take up as a priority in child rights issues? |
